Engineers who automate for a living
Grey Bracket is a DevOps automation company. We are not a staffing desk and we are not a reseller — we are a small, senior team that builds delivery platforms and then hands them over working, documented and owned by you.
Named after the least glamorous part of the code
A bracket is the piece nobody notices until it is missing — and then nothing compiles. That is roughly how software delivery works too. Deployment pipelines, infrastructure modules, policy gates and runbooks are invisible when they are good, and catastrophic when they are absent.
We started Grey Bracket because too many capable engineering teams were spending their best hours fighting their own delivery process: manual releases, environments that drift, cloud bills nobody can explain, and a security review that arrives the week before launch. Those are solved problems. They are just tedious to solve well, and they are rarely anyone's day job.
So that is our day job. We come in, measure what is actually happening, automate the path from commit to production, and leave your team faster than we found it.
# how we decide things principles: - "Measure before you migrate." - "Boring technology, applied well." - "If it is not in Git, it does not exist." - "Automate the thing you did twice." - "The handover is the deliverable." - "Page a human only for a human problem." we_will_not: - "Sell you a tool you do not need." - "Hide the work behind a portal." - "Leave you dependent on us."
What actually makes the difference
Plenty of firms will write you a Terraform module. These are the things clients tell us they did not get elsewhere.
Senior engineers only
The person on the discovery call is the person writing the Terraform. No pyramid staffing, no handoff to a team you have never met.
Evidence before opinions
We baseline your DORA metrics, cloud spend and incident history first. Recommendations come with the numbers that justify them.
We work in your repos
Ordinary pull requests, reviewed by your engineers, in your Git provider. Nothing is built in a parallel universe and dropped on you at the end.
No lock-in, ever
Open-source tooling and your own accounts. Everything we write is yours under a permissive licence — including the runbooks.
Outcomes, not hours
Engagements are scoped against measurable targets: lead time, change failure rate, uptime, cloud spend. We report on them every sprint.
Enablement is built in
Pairing sessions, architecture decision records and written runbooks are part of the scope, not an upsell at the end.
A five-stage engagement, no mystery in the middle
Assess
A two-week audit of pipelines, infrastructure, security and spend, scored against DORA, with a written findings report.
Blueprint
Target architecture, migration sequence and an automation backlog agreed with your engineers, with effort and cost attached.
Automate
Two-week increments of real work: modules, pipelines, clusters and policies, reviewed through your normal PR process.
Operate
Cutover, on-call, runbooks and enablement. We hold the pager until your team is comfortable taking it back.
Optimise
Monthly reviews of reliability, delivery metrics and cloud spend, with the next improvements ranked by value.
Work with us the way that fits your team
Every model includes documentation, handover and access to the same senior engineers. Only the shape of the commitment changes.
Project Sprint
A defined outcome — a migration, a pipeline rebuild, a Kubernetes rollout — delivered to an agreed scope and date.
- Written scope and acceptance criteria
- Fixed price or capped time and materials
- Weekly demo of working automation
- Handover documentation included
Dedicated DevOps Pod
An embedded squad working in your repos, your stand-ups and your board, with a lead engineer accountable for outcomes.
- Senior engineers with time-zone overlap
- Scale the pod up or down each month
- Sprint reporting against DORA metrics
- Thirty days' notice, no long tie-in
Managed DevOps
We run the platform: monitoring, patching, on-call, incident response and continuous improvement under an agreed SLA.
- 24×7 coverage with named engineers
- 15-minute response on Sev-1 incidents
- Monthly reliability and cost report
- Quarterly architecture review
We hire engineers who like the unglamorous parts
Grey Bracket is remote-first with engineers across Europe, the UK and India. We work in small pods, we write things down, and we do not do heroics at 2am because a process was missing.
- Remote-first with async-friendly working hours
- A real training budget and paid certification time
- Sustainable on-call, properly compensated
- Open-source contribution time every sprint
